Making Pictures with Figures
Do you want to create a fun and creative picture out of FIGURES? Click on the link below and create a picture using the 2D figures we are learning about. If you have a printer at home, you can print this out and showcase it in the classroom! Have fun designing!

Sorting by 2 Attributes Practice
Hi friends! I found this great website for you to practice sorting by two attributes. Check it out this weekend by clicking on the "Button Text" below. Write a comment to let me know if it was useful. Happy learning :)
Rounding Steps:Step 1: Find the place value and circle the number (if you are rounding to the nearest tens, find the number in the tens column and circle it) Example: 34 -The number in the tens column is 3. Circle the number 3. Step 2: What is the number in between 34? E.g. 34 is in between 30 and 40 Step 3: Look at your neighbour and underline the digit. E.g., 3 is in the tens column, my neighbour is the number 4. Step 4: Ask yourself, "what do I know about the number 4?" Think about the place value rule! e.g., I know that if the number is less than 5 we round DOWN. Step 5: Round the number using all the clues e.g., 34 will round down to 30 because if 'your neighbour' is less than 5 you need to round your number down. 4 is less than 5 and 34 is closer to 30 than 40. 34 --> 30 |
We are learning to round two-digit numbers to the nearest ten. I uploaded some links in the "homework section" for rounding practice! This will be a good idea for everyone to practice. Go have a look at some of the rounding activities on the homework page and write a comment underneath it about what you think! Happy learning :)
Rounding Rule:
If the number is 5 or greater, round UP
If the number is less than 5, round DOWN. |
Higher Order Thinking, Place Value!
Collaborative learning with our group members! We used base ten blocks to work our way through the Math problem. We learned through "trial and error." We are also learning how to "justify" our answers. The students "love" the word justify!!!
Hands on Learning with my group members
Students were given a "lucky number." Their task was to represent their number in a variety of ways. Look at some of the examples below!
Our final product posted outside of our classroom!
In September we started off the year learning about representing, comparing and ordering whole numbers to 1000 in many different ways. We really enjoyed playing "Human Place Value" where Ms. Persaud would call out a number and our jobs were to position ourselves in the correct order. We then had to record our number in standard form, expanded form, write the base-ten name and model our number using base ten blocks. After our class lesson, we worked with a partner to practise this strategy. We rolled a dice twice and recorded the number on our recording sheet. We then modelled the number in various ways.
Collaborative lesson as a class
